The word “cantera” literally means “quarry” in Spanish. Cantera stone is a volcanic stone that is porous, strong and durable but still lightweight. Due to the volcanic formation of the stone, it has a dynamic variety of colors and textures. It has been used as architectural element since the Europeans arrived in Mexico. Our cantera products are hand carved giving them an “old world” feel, and are imported direct from our artisans in Mexico. Applications include, but are not limited to: fireplaces, fountains, entryways, columns, sculptures, etc…
